Get to Know the Booze Babes You Should be Following on Insta

Spring has Sprung!

It's that awesome time of year where we start warming up, shed some layers, outdoor activities come back to life, and new BEERS and BABES come out.

We decided it is time to get to know some of our favorite IG Babes.  We did our Spring pick and found a few Babes to tell us what got them into craft beer, blogging and some of their favorite local breweries.

Read about them and follow them, they are all bad-ass!

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

I am gonna have to take my best guess from what my memory tells me, it was North Coast’s PranQster Belgian style golden ale and around the same time DFH 60 min IPA.  They eased me into the bitter flavors of beers.  I have been to North Coast Brewery since then but still have DFH on my list.  But hey, more importantly, I met Sam himself and he bought me a beer soooooooooo….WINNING!

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

I used to post on my Facebook like I do IG with a pic of beer and my thoughts about it.  Then one day an old buddy from high school messaged me and said it would be cool if I blogged about it.  I got excited about that thought and started a website right away.  I was also into doing artwork a lot at the time so there was born The Art of Beers website.  It took on a few different forms from where it is today and sadly I neglect it a bit now.  I blogged for a bit but was also getting into IG at the time and discovering what that was all about.  I found more people responded to a photo with a quick blurb rather than reading a long page of beer reviews so my blogged turned to IG.  I am having a blast with it and meeting so many people even if just through social media.  Great connections and definitely made some good friends.  Plus I get to be part of Boozeleague now and that alone is awesome!  Cheers Wylie!  I would love to be traveling now like I was but harder from where I live.  So many breweries I need to experience and taste!  I do what I can and hope in the near future will be getting out much more.

What city do you live in and favorite brewery there?

I live in Abilene, Texas now since November.  Couple breweries here that I visit damn near every weekend are Sockdolager and Pappy Slokum.  Both have fun atmospheres, good people, yummy food trucks and are also a block from each other if even that far.  Score!  As far as I know they are the only 2 active ones here now.  There will be a new one opening up next Spring called Grain Theory and I am very excited about that!  Met the fellas at their homebrew booth at a craft fair, excited for them!

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

About 7-8 years ago I discovered Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. That was definitely my gateway beer.

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

I started my page because I wanted to dedicate an account for my love for beer. The feedback was so awesome that I decided to go bigger and actually create a beer related blog. (Brew Babe Blog

What city do you live in and what's your favorite brewery there?

I live in Miami, FL. I have to say I love every local brewery. They're each unique in their own way and although the experiences can be different, they all have great brews. Some of them are J Wakefield Brewing, M.I.A beer company, Biscayne Bay Brewing, Lincoln's Beard, etc...

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

So I loathed all beer until one day I didn’t hate Yuengling. Then New Castle wasn’t bad- then finally my bartender boyfriend (at that time) talked me into a Southern Tier Pumking he had on tap- normally, I hate pumpkin everything, but I actually liked this beer- mind, blown. After that moment I was open to trying anything- he brought home a 120 Min from DFH and I was hooked. This was in 2010.

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

I started posting pics on IG within a year or so after that because of Untappd. I like editing pics, so I loved IG for the creative nature. I think what really got me hooked on selfies with the beer was finding @beerselfie. The first time I got reposted I geeked out I was so excited to be a part of the beer world. Untappd is really the foundation of it all though- I was forgetting what singles I had already tried from Total Wine. Photos and blogging helped me remember what I liked and why.

What city do you live in and what's your favorite brewery there?

Now, I live in Las Vegas, Nevada... but I’m still new here so I’ve only been to about three breweries. No favorite just yet- my beer life has been VA, NC, and FL. Of those, VA was my favorite beer. Of the VA breweries in Williamsburg where I lived, it’s a tie between The Virginia Beer Company (best hang out, incredible seasonal releases) and Alewerks (because of Bitter Valentine)

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

I first discovered craft beer about seven/eight years ago. I used to do beer/wine/liquor promotions to pay for college, so I was already interested in the tasting aspect for wine and liquor. Most of the beers that did promotions back then were macro. But, one time I had Shiner Bock Ruby Redbird to promote. That was the first time I realized that beer could actually have flavor. Not too long afterwards, I was traveling to several different states for work experience and in my off time, I’d go into bars just asking for their local micro-brews. It started off as just a fun hobby to experience different cities. Now, I work in beer!

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

I started blogging and writing about beer just for my own memory really, kind of like online scrapbooking, I guess. I started a blog as a fun little project to document my travels and it caught way more traction than I was expecting. About that time, I was traveling to different countries specifically for beer: Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Iceland, etc.. So I was just taking a bunch of pictures and writing about my experiences abroad.

What city do you live in and what's your favorite brewery there?

I live in New York City. And that’s tough.. we have so many great breweries here. A favorite place will always be KCBC. I used to work in the tap room. It’s got a great vibe with great beer and great owners. In such a saturated market with so much good beer, I think the heart of a brewery and the people behind it really make a big difference.

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

My first craft beer I ever tried was the Sweetwater 420—and at the time, I HATED it. That was about 4 years ago. Fast forward two years, and I tried dipping my toes in to craft beer again with a Kona Big Wave. I loved it. I started trying all the other Kona beers. One thing led to another and now, I am obsessed with the craft beer industry.

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

I was drinking a beer (haha) and one of my friends told me I should start an Instagram or blog about it. A GIRL who likes… beer? What? That is not the most common drink of choice. I started blogging about beer not only because I loved it, but I also have this dream that I can get other people, especially women, to try some of my favorite beverages. I am hoping to break stereotypes and share my favorite beers and local breweries with the world.

What city do you live in and favorite brewery there?

I live in Orlando, Florida. The beer scene is new here, but it’s really starting to grow. My favorite brewery for a while has been Hourglass Brewing. They have always had such a great selection, and I love their sours and sour IPAs! It is so hard to find a brewery with a variety of styles that also taste great and have good flavor combinations. Some places have beers and styles that are a hit or miss for me, but nearly every beer I have ever tried from Hourglass has been a home run. It’s also located in my hometown, where my roots run deep. It definitely holds a special place in my heart!

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

I was lucky enough to primarily grow up around Santa Rosa, where we had this little craft brewery you may have heard of called Russian River. It became my routine to leave class at the SRJC and ride my bike to RRBC to do homework at the round table in the back corner (sadly no longer there after the remodel RIP) drinking a Bling Pig or STS (one of my all time favorite beers). Back then the brewery wasn't nearly as busy as it is today and often Vinnie would come and sit with us and tell us stories (his favorite being the story of Orval, one of his favorite beers), which really ignited the fire to where I am today. I didn't realize other towns didn't have the RRBC quality of beer until I started moving all over the place!

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

Long story short, I wanted to be a firefighter/paramedic but broke my back in sort of a freak accident and sadly couldn't physically do what I could before. Before I was a beer blogger I was primarily a health & fitness blogger on Instagram. I loved all the connections I had made so and didn't want to stop so I decided to start posting my healthy meals with the craft beer I was usually drinking while I healed up. Whenever I traveled for work or vacation I've always looked up breweries nearby and started featuring that more as well, as I wanted to meet up with fellow craft enthusiasts across the country. Within a year my following went from 3k to 9k and it's just grown from there. I started it to connect with like-minded people across the world and if you follow me you see that's what I'm still doing and see no end in sight. One of the farthest beer friends I've made is my good friend Fredrik (@beerflight) who lives in Stockholm and ended up coming to my beerchelorette party and our smallish wedding in Sonoma County last October.

What city do you live in and favorite brewery there?

I technically live in Columbus, GA right now but if you've seen my feed, I'm rarely there. The Georgia craft scene is definitely booming and there is some great stuff coming out but I'm a California girl through and through. I do have to give a big shout out to Maltitude & Nonic (owned by the same guys) for really bringing some awesome craft beer spots to the small town of Columbus!

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

At the time, I had just moved to Tustin, Ca. this was 18 years ago. I worked at the Wholefoods there and had access to some pretty great and standard brews there- Rogue Dead Guy, Stone's Arrogant Bastard, Delirium Tremens. A block away, and conveniently across the street from my apartment, was Tustin Brewing, my first taste of a locally made craft brew. I was hooked.

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of it

My love of beer started to become a passion... I began home brewing and got hooked on the science and flavor profiles when using different hops, yeast, malts.... or even when paired with foods. I decided to pursue my beer education and push for my Cicerone. And that, began my journey documenting beer and my experiences in beer. I became a Certified Cicerone, then began teaching and managing in beer.

What city do you live in and what's your favorite brewery there?

I have lived in San Diego now for 17 years and have watched and been part of the changing beer scenery. With over a 150 breweries.... It's hard to choose just one fave. But a few of my local faves to enjoy a pint or two are Pizza Port Brewing, Eppig Brewing, Fall Brewing & Societe Brewing.

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

Three years ago the first craft beer I discovered was Commotion, an American pale ale, from Great Raft Beer from my home state of Louisiana! This is for sure the beer that started my interest in craft beer and created the monster I am today - whenever I can get it you will definitely catch me sipping on one and appreciating what got me into this whole crazy thing!

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

At first I didn’t have an Instagram purely dedicated to the beers I was drinking; as I drank new beers I posted them along side pictures of my personal life with no real purpose. As the interest in my beer pics grew, and I started meeting the mot amazing and interesting people, I decided to convert my instagram to Hopsnobbery, a page just for sharing the craft beers I was drinking and connecting with these new friends within the craft beer community! I decided to do this because I love seeing what people around the country and even the world are drinking and I wanted to do the same. Through my instagram I want to introduce people to new beers and breweries they may have never heard of that they definitely should know about! But truly it’s about the community - I have met so many incredible people through Instagram that share the same love and passion for craft beer and our community too! The more people I can connect with the better!

What city do you live in and what's your favorite brewery there?

I just moved to Miami a few weeks ago and hands down my favorite brewery is J Wakefield Brewing located in the Wynwood Arts District here in Miami! Some would say I am bias because my husband is the brand director for JWB, but their beers truly are outstanding!

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

It was about a decade ago when beer drinking scaled up a few levels for me. It was when Magic Hat came into my life, Magic Hat #9. Classic. That beer increased my curiosity in beer and I wanted to taste and explore more!

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about them?

I was already visiting breweries, making connections, and occasionally posting about it in my private page. So one day I decided to create a platform where I could have fun with it. Who doesn’t want to see a cute girl with a good beer, right?

What city do you live in and what’s your favorite brewery there?

I live in the greater Hartford area and my favorite brewery in New Park. Such great beer with a variety to offer.

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

My first craft beer was in fact the first beer I ever sipped. After having regarded myself a consummate oenophile, I took one sip of Allagash White and never looked back

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

I had been involved in beer tourism for over a decade before I first started photo-documenting my travels. I never intended on having a beer-centric Instagram account, however a few months into posting information about my beer travels, individuals started reaching out to me; opening up dialogue about the breweries, brewers, and beers I had visited, met, and drank [respectively] along the way. I realized then that I had a lot to share, and an AMAZING community to share it with. A little over year into "blogging", I accepted a position as a territory manager for a local brewery, and following that, began consulting and writing about craft beer professionally. It's remarkable to look back and think that this began as a sort of hobby; I'm thankful each day for the platform that social media has given me!

What city do you live in and what's your favorite brewery there?

I actually live in two cities, as I spend my time commuting between my spaces in Tampa, Florida and Cleveland, Ohio. My favorite brewery in Tampa is admittedly a three-way tie between Angry Chair, 7venth Sun, and Hidden Springs Ale Works; phenomenal liquid and phenomenal people. As for Cleveland? I think Masthead is making the best and most exciting beer in the city right now.

When did you discover your first craft beer and what was it?

When I had my first Craft Beer, I was 16 with my dad at a dog show. I remember all of my dad's friends dragging their coolers over to our set-up, offering my dad Corona's, but my dad reached in to our cooler and right out from under the orange Gatorade, string cheese and ice, my dad pulls out a Mississippi Mud by Mississippi Brewing Co. and asks me if I wanted to try some. I was around all of his friends, so I braved up and said yes. To my surprise, I loved it. 16 years later, I continue to share our love of dark craft beers with my dad.

Why did you decide to start blogging or posting about all of them?

I decided to start blogging an posting photos of all the beer I was having for fun. Back when I started, it was really cool to have the breweries reach out to you and thank you for drinking their beer, it still is cool. But, it became my passion in 2012 when I saw all the Craft Beer Oregon and San Diego had, and the few local craft breweries Los Angeles had. Then my purpose became less of "just for fun" and more about how I can help Craft Beer in my area.

What city do you live in and what's your favorite brewery there?

I live in Woodland Hills, California, and while Woodland Hills doesn't have it's own brewery, the nearest one is in Canoga Park at 8one8 Brewing. However, I will say my favorite brewery near me is a tie between 14 Cannons Brewery and Five Threads Brewing Company both in Westlake Village, CA.- because can we really just have one favorite?
